As a new generation of electric vehicles (EVs) comes to market – optimized to drive further and charge faster – Huntsman is focused on developing innovations that will enable higher performance batteries.
The result is our SHOKLESS™ system range – a portfolio of polyurethane-based encapsulating resins that can make it possible for OEMs to improve the performance and protection of EV batteries at a cell, module and pack level.
Lightweight, shock-resistant, thermally optimized and structurally strong, our polyurethane SHOKLESS™ system portfolio can help deliver new levels of functionality in battery performance and protection.
Low thermal conductivity, heat dissipation and dielectric traits help optimize battery design and can facilitate the stable operating conditions needed to maximize battery pack performance.
Advanced vibration dampening properties help reduce mechanical stresses and prolong battery durability and lifespan.
Quick-cure systems, that can be easily integrated into battery production lines, support improved throughput and just-in-time (JIT) delivery.
A high strength-to-weight foam ratio aids EV lightweighting and supports vehicle energy efficiency goals while maximizing the structural integrity of battery packs.
Potting is a manufacturing process that uses a liquid two-component system of resins to fill the spaces inside battery packs and around individual cells. Once cured, the resin becomes a solid protective polyurethane foam that surrounds the components and helps reinforce the whole battery pack infrastructure.
Easy to process, SHOKLESS™ systems for battery encapsulation can be easily integrated into automated manufacturing lines, supporting the drive for new efficiencies in the production of next generation EVs powered by cylindrical cell powertrains.
A low-viscosity SHOKLESS™ system is poured into an EV battery pack.
The material flows easily into cavities between cells and components.
The resin fills any gaps, rising uniformly to surround battery cells.
The SHOKLESS™ resin system cures fast, forming a foam. This secures parts for quick pack handling.
